Congratulations to Peikun, Wudi, Shuang, Yifan, and Yanchi with successful graduations!

Peikun Zheng, the main developer of AIQM1 and contributor to many other methods and studies, successfully defended his PhD! We wish him all the best in his future! Peikun was my first PhD student, co-supervised with Prof. Wei Wu. Thus, Peikun’s research interests are very broad, from valence bond theory to machine learning. Peikun’s work heavily influenced the work of three other graduates: Wudi Yang, Yifan Hou, and Yanchi Ou.

Peikun Zheng (in the middle) successfully defended his PhD, May 15, 2023.

Wudi Yang contributed to Peikun’s work on heats of formation at a low cost with AIQM1 method and later used AIQM1 method for simulating very big cycloparaphenylene nanolassos. Wudi has successfully defended his master thesis and is preparing to leave to work in a company. Good luck!

Wudi Yang (right) and Shuang Zhang (middle) have defended their master theses on May 30, 2023.

Shuang Zhang has also successfully defended her master’s thesis and her work was on creating databases VIB5 and WS22 for machine learning. She is moving on to a company. All the best!

Yifan Hou and Yanchi Ou defended their bachelor theses on May 29. Yanchi’s thesis focused on benchmarking AIQM1 for reaction barriers. Yifan’s thesis – on unpublished work focusing on a new application of AIQM1, while he has already developed very accurate machine learning potentials (p)KREG. Luckily for the group, Yifan is staying with an upgraded status of a PhD student (from September).
